Procedures for Commissioning a Portrait

1. First we will discuss what you would like by phone and/or email.

2. Once we have agreed what the project will be, I will either travel to you to take digital reference photographs or you will send several photos of the subject to me. I would also like an idea as to where the painting will be displayed, so that I can adjust the painting if necessary for lighting, etc. We will work together to decide which poses and backgrounds will work best for the subject. Of course, more complex paintings require more labor and thus the price will be adjusted accordingly. Travel outside the Denver Metro area will also require additional fees.

3. A non-refundable 30 percent deposit is required before the painting is started, the remainder of the portrait cost is due upon delivery.

4. We will sign a contract once the project has been decided upon and I will determine a time frame for completion. A standard size (24"x30") head and shoulders portrait will generally take from one to three months, generally depending upon its complexity.

5. We will stay in contact during the process of the painting and I will usually send progress photos either by e-mail or by regular mail. Your satisfaction is of the utmost importance to me and I believe it is important to "check in" with you during the creation of your piece.

6. I am willing to offer advice about framing if you like, but ultimately the decision is yours. I deliver the paintings unframed unless we come to another agreement.

7. This should not be an intimidating process. I will do everything I can to make things go smoothly and painlessly.
